Can you buy rotisserie chicken with EBT?
Short answer: Cold: yes. Hot: not yet. A rotisserie chicken sold cold or chilled can be bought with EBT. One sold hot cannot, under rules in place when we checked.
USDA's rule is that foods hot at the point of sale are ineligible. A rotisserie chicken that has cooled, such as one from a refrigerated case, is not hot at the point of sale. That is why shoppers are told to ask for a chilled one.
A change has been proposed. H.R. 7567, the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, includes a section (Sec. 4114) that adds hot rotisserie chicken to the foods SNAP can buy. The House passed the bill, and it was received in the Senate on May 19, 2026.
When we checked on Nov. 4, 2026, Congress.gov showed the bill's status as Passed House. It had not passed the Senate or been sent to the President, so it is not law. USDA's own page still lists hot foods as ineligible. Until that changes, treat hot chicken as not covered.
If it does pass, the change covers rotisserie chicken only, not other hot foods.
